PHILOSOPHY

Artistic expression, playful handling of computers and videotechnique and the fascination
of nightlife - videoart and VJ´s have become a solid part of the club - as well as cultural landscape. Next to music there nowadays is huge demand for video installation and interactivity. They have become absolutely essential in order to make events and unforgetable experience for the audience. „PIXEL-ROYAL“ tries to stay up to date and therefore plans exclusive video-based event and/or space concepts.
We provide the pictures that fit the sound-beatsynchronized and larger- then-life.
Pale walls become dance partners: space, sound and audience dynamically melt into one another. Optical effects and projections become space, space is being constantely redesigned.

Nightlife is interactive media design: the dancefloor as „video-sculpture“

THE SYSTEM

One main focus liese on being able to „seperately“ control up to eight projector screens with a single system in order to create a complex three dimensional atmosphere.

The screens can either be distributed at will within a space or joined together. Furthermore we are capable of bringing in video signals from „live“-cameras,
so the musicians/performers can actually be seen on the screens themselves.

There can also be „live“ inputs from an interactive terminal.
visual design of space is treading new paths, rythm for all senses.
A celebration for the eyes!

In Detail:

VIDEOPERFORMANCE

Thematically coordinated videocontent, clear pictures, overlayed with dynamic,
grahic objects, combined with digital and analogue effects are fundamental elements.
Our basic principle in terms of aesthetic visual design:
„Since musiccan be anticipated anywhere within space so should videoanimation in order to produce a audiovisual package.“

AUDIOAKTIVITY

In order to design the videoprojections dynamically and create an affiliation with the music we link up our animations with the sound. This is achieved byprocessing and analysing the audio signals or by exchanging MIDI-signals with the „live“ musicians.
The obtained parameters are then connected e.g. with objects or determine the position within a videoloop (Videoscratching).

VIRTUAL SPACE

The systems offers the option of controlling up to eight video projectors. Every projector is capable of showing a different content or, by combining them with others, simulate projectionsurfaces of various sizes. Furthermore every projector is capable of singely producing several smaller surfaces.

The installation can inlude any number of projectors arranged as a long surface, a circle, an ashlar or a semicircle. All surfaces are integrated into one projection. Objects can move across the whole intsllation.

Maybe the following flics are able to give an insight on the operating principle of the installation.

PARTICIPATION/INTERAKTIVITY

The aim is to not only to win the crowd over simply as an audience, but also give them the opportunity to actively participate in the Multimedia-world. We also produce interactive terminals that can be positioned separately and are linked with the system.

On the one hand the audience is albe to cause optical effects in the overall installation and with the help of integrated cameras virtually „melt“ with the installation.

On the other hand objects can be selected, integrated in the projection and influenced
and muted through various parameters.

We also consider bringing in an interface for notebooks. In this case video artists and „freaks“ can integrate their own videofootage.

BACKGROUND/COMMUNITY

Through the local community, we called into life, by and for video artists and VJ’s „KunstUndForum“, as well as our cofounded club for the latter „Visual Berlin e.V.“
we are closely linked to various interested and interesting V.J.’s to, if requested, participate in the project. These could then actively participate in the videoperformance. This would then do justice to the Event we also initiated,
the „Berliner Stammtisch/Laptop Jam“-one fundamental „multimediacultural“ idea which has established itself in the last couple of years.
One open notebook interface in an interactive terminal accords with the international SHARE-principle, which offers anyone the opportunity to particapate spontaniously.
